Volunteers from OU-COM aid Haiti earthquake victims
Sixteen physicians and other volunteers affiliated with the Ohio University College of Osteopathic Medicine traveled to Haiti in late February to help provide specialized care for victims of the January 12 earthquake. They included physicians, surgeons and anesthesiologists, some of whom work within the Centers for Osteopathic Research and Education (CORE), OU-COM’s statewide consortium of teaching hospitals. Four of the 16 volunteers are OU-COM alumni.
University selected for study on
high-risk drinking
Ohio University is one of four universities chosen by The Century Council to implement and further explore potential effectiveness of student-generated campaigns to prevent high-risk drinking on its campus. The Century Council is a national not-for-profit organization funded by distillers that is dedicated to fighting drunk driving and underage drinking.
'Today' shows Bobcat frenzy
NBC "Today Show" intern Ryan Lytle, a fourth-year Scripps College of Communication student, got more than he bargained for on his last day at work -- he got to chest-bump his boss, Matt Lauer, one of the show’s anchors. Lauer, an OHIO alumnus, was celebrating OHIO's victory over Georgetown University in the Midwest Region of the NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament on March 18.
High school students can join 'Pills, Potions, and Poisons'
Applications are now available for the Pills, Potions, and Poisons high school summer course to be jointly sponsored by the Ohio University Department of Chemistry and Ohio State University College of Pharmacy. Designed for high school sophomores, juniors and seniors, this science enrichment and career exploration program will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. July 26-31 on the Ohio University campus.

Alumni Association hosts NCAA Bobcat Bashes
Bobcats from every generation came to Providence, Rhode Island for the NCAA Bobcat Bashes and tournament games against Georgetown and Tennessee on March 18 and 20. Hundreds more attended a total of 40 chapter game watches across the nation. Click here to see video and read all the details about this year's tournament!
Student-made film will screen in Ohio, NYC
Three screenings of the Ohio University student-made film Trailerpark will take place in April.
The film, which is based on a book of short stories by acclaimed author Russell Banks and produced almost entirely by students from the School of Media Arts and Studies, will be shown on April 8 at the Esquire Theatre, 320 Ludlow Ave., in Cincinnati at 7:30 p.m. The film will also be shown in Cleveland at the Tower City Theatre, 230 W. Huron Rd., on April 15 at 7 p.m. and finally in New York City at the Walt Disney Studios Park Avenue Screening Room, 500 Park Ave., on April 22 at 7:30 p.m.

Facebook Fan Page Challenge update
Your Ohio University Alumni Association has added more than 3,000 fans! The OUAA is battling it out with the Alumni Associations at Miami University and Bowling Green State University to see which group can add 10,000 Facebook fans before April 5.

Students go Bare on the Bricks for charity
Ohio University students go cold so others can stay warm! On Saturday, Feb. 28, approximately 300 OHIO students took off their clothes (bathing suits were the minimum dress allowed) in an effort to encourage clothing donations for local shelters and Haiti relief efforts. More than 1000 lbs. of clothing was donated.
The Bare on the Bricks event was organized by the Student Alumni Board, in collaboration with Alpha Epsilon Pi. It involved participants running from the College Gate down Court Street to Broney's Alumni Bar and Grill.

 Carl H. Walker '56, along with others, has been keeping African American Bobcats from the '50s and '60s connected for more than 40 years through the "Soulful Bobcats" group. Mr. Walker is organizing the "Soulful Bobcats" return to campus during the Black Alumni Reunion in May.
Graduating cum laude in secondary education, with his major study in American history, he subsequently graduated from the University of Virginia Woodrow Wilson Department of Government and Foreign Affairs. After he retired from a career with the U.S. Social Security Administration, he became an adjunct professor in the Department of Public Administration at Atlanta University and later an adjunct professor in the Department of Criminal Justice at Clark Atlanta University.
Carl and his wife Frances Ramsey '58, currently reside in Atlanta and have a son Kenn, who lives in San Jose, Calif.
